Three New Tombs Discovered in Luxor: A Major Breakthrough in Egypt's New Kingdom Heritage

A major archaeological discovery has just been made in Luxor's Dra Abu el-Naga: three newly uncovered tombs belonging to high-ranking officials from the New Kingdom era. Excavation and cleaning efforts are ongoing to reveal more about the tombs' owners, with plans to study and publish the findings in academic detail. The secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities personally visited the site and stressed the importance of scientific documentation and publication. An Egyptian archaeological mission in the Dra Abu el-Naga area on Luxor's West Bank has unearthed three New Kingdom tombs during the current excavation season. Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy hailed the discovery as a major scientific and archaeological achievement, bolstering Egypt's standing on the global cultural tourism map. He noted that these tombs are expected to become a key attraction for lovers of heritage and history due to their rich cultural and human significance. The Minister emphasized that this discovery—carried out entirely by Egyptian hands—demonstrates the remarkable capabilities of local archaeologists in making world-class discoveries. Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, inspected the site and confirmed that all three tombs date back to the New Kingdom. The names and titles of their owners were identified through inscriptions found within the tombs. He noted that further cleaning and analysis will be conducted to better understand the tombs' significance, with a commitment to scientific study and publication. Mohamed Abdel-Badei, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector, revealed that one of the tombs belongs to 'Amun-em-Opet,' a Ramesside-era official who served at a temple or estate of Amun. While much of the artwork was destroyed, surviving scenes depict offerings, funerary furniture, and banquet rituals. The second and third tombs date back to the 18th Dynasty. One belonged to 'Baki,' a granary overseer, while the other belonged to 'S,' who held multiple titles: overseer of Amun's temple in the oases, mayor of the northern oases, and scribe. As for their layout: • Amun-em-Opet's tomb features a small courtyard, an entrance leading to a square hall, and a niche—later altered in reuse. • Baki's tomb includes a long corridor-like courtyard, followed by another yard leading to a transverse hall and then a longitudinal chamber ending in an unfinished shrine with a burial shaft. • The tomb of 'S' starts with a small courtyard and burial shaft, leading to the main entrance and a transverse hall that connects to an unfinished longitudinal room. This discovery adds a fascinating new chapter to Egypt's ever-unfolding archaeological story. President Sisi follows up on latest updates of ‘Digilians' initiative

CAIRO – 28 May 2025: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Director of the Egyptian Military Academy Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher on Wednesday. The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President Sisi followed up on the latest pertinent to the 'Digilians" initiative, mainly the executive procedures for joining, as the initiative is set to be operative by September 2025. The procedures reviewed included the establishment of a registration platform, the completion of the technological and engineering preparations, and the necessary infrastructure to implement the initiative on time. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology explained that the initiative is open to all young men and women, from different academic and professional disciplines, and from all governorates. The selection process will be conducted objectively. He also noted that the study will include multiple programs, including an intensive diploma, a specialized diploma, a professional master's degree, and an academic master's degree, all of which will be offered completely free of charge, including accommodation, living expenses, and training. The curriculum will include a comprehensive set of technical, personal, linguistic, life and leadership skills, in addition to freelancing skills. President Sisi also reviewed the initiative's tracks, including the development of students' technical skills. Agreements are being concluded with international and local companies operating in Egypt to receive trainees in the initiative after completing the duration of theoretical study to acquire technical skills. This is while focusing on supporting them in presenting an idea for a profitable technology-based project, and participating in Egypt's digital projects. Furthermore, all trainees will be assisted in creating an account on freelancing platforms and securing practical projects. President Sisi stressed the need to complete all the executive procedures related to implementing the initiative on time, while considering ways to expand the base of beneficiaries of the initiative to achieve a significant leap in the number and quality of trained personnel in the field of communications and information technology. President Sisi also gave directives to cooperate with specialized entities in various technological sciences, both locally and internationally, to develop the linguistic, life, and leadership skills of Egyptian youth, in light of the state's strategy to build digital capabilities and technology-specialized cadres. The President also emphasized the importance of continuing to implement digital transformation plans and further develop the state's technological infrastructure.

Aaron Rodgers' Decision Predicted to Impact 21-Year-Old NFL Record

One of the biggest storylines for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 was that they achieved their 21st consecutive season without a losing record, which is tied with the Dallas Cowboys (1965 to 1985) for the longest streak in NFL history. The start of this impressive feat officially began in 2004 under Bill Cowher, but a majority of it has come under Mike Tomlin, who took over in 2007. Advertisement Now, the Steelers have the opportunity to break it in 2025, but much of their chances could hinge on the decision of free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In an article for CBS Sports, Cody Benjamin predicts that with Rodgers manning the offense, the Steelers will go 10-7, but without him, they are instead destined for a 7-10 record. Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers© Ed Mulholland-Imagn Images Of course, Rodgers' free agency decision has become nothing short of a rollercoaster, as he continues to drag it out despite NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting that his decisions are either to join the Steelers or retire. Last season with the New York Jets, he proved to still be a viable option, starting all 17 games and completing 368-of-584 passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating. Advertisement Considering the only other quarterbacks on the Steelers' roster are veterans Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph, as well as rookie Will Howard, there's no doubt that he would be the most experienced and proven option. Currently, without Rodgers, ESPN BET gives them +120 odds to win nine games, which would be the minimum amount to secure a non-losing record, assuming there are no ties. Maresca explains Conference League call which left Chelsea star 'devastated'

Chelsea captain Reece James ended the night with the Europa Conference League trophy in his grasp but the defender was disappointed not start against Real Betis Reece James lifted the Europa Conference League trophy on a historic night for Chelsea in Poland - but Enzo Maresca admitted it was tough to leave his 'devastated' captain out of the starting XI against Real Betis. James, 25, was introduced from the bench at half-time with Chelsea trailing 1-0; they went on to produce a rousing second half fightback to win the game 4-1, becoming the only team in history to win all four of Uefa's major honours in the process. ‌ The Blues captain has endured more than his fair of injury issues and, after playing in Chelsea's final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, started on the bench. And after lifting the club's latest trophy, James conceded he was disappointed to not have started the game. ‌ "Of course it is devastating to know you are not starting in a final," he told TNT Sports when he was asked how he took the news. "I want to play every game but it was the manager's decision. Once he made the decision, I had to move on and accept it and be ready when I was needed." Maresca was asked about James' omission by Joe Cole and the Italian made it clear how highly he values the right-back, implying that extra care is being taken with the Chelsea academy graduate due to his injury record. ‌ He replied: 'Joe, I promise you I would start Reece James every game but we are trying to protect him. We are trying to manage him, he is like Cole [Palmer] for us.' Maresca earned plenty of plaudits from the TNT Sports pundits for the way his second half substitutions changed the game after a disappointing start to the evening. ‌ He said of the performance: "I am very happy. I was a little bit frustrated in the first half because I think we approached the game in the wrong way. Also I expected a little bit, the happiness was a bit too much after Nottingham Forest because you go all season waiting and waiting [to achieve Champions League ]. So we struggled a bit first half, second half we were much better and now we are very happy. "The message after Nottingham Forest was, 'Guys if we want to be an important team then what we have done is done and we have to win the final.' But it's the happiness, the tiredness because we had 48 hours less than them, they played on Friday for nothing, we played on Sunday for a big, big target. So I expected it a little bit. "In the second half we played much better."

Brit killed on night before birthday as she celebrated on dream Jamaican holiday

Lisa Ball, 53, was thrown more than 20 yards and died after the motorbike she was on crashed with a pick-up truck exiting a restaurant car park near Montego Bay in Jamaica A British woman was tragically killed in a motorbike crash the night before her birthday as she celebrated her anniversary during a dream holiday in Jamaica. Lisa Ball, who was riding on a rented scooter as a passenger, was thrown more than 20 yards when the motorbike crashed with a pick-up truck exiting a restaurant car park near Montego Bay on the Caribbean island's north coast. The 53-year-old, from Keighley in West Yorkshire, suffered fatal head injuries in the crash at around 7.40pm on May 19, according to witnesses. ‌ The mother and grandmother was taken to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead. Lisa's partner Anthony Hurt, thought to have been driving the scooter, reportedly escaped with minor injuries to his feet. ‌ The North Coast Highway, where the tragedy happened, is a busy tourist trail common among holidaymakers travelling between Falmouth and St James. The driver of the pick-up truck involved in the crash was taken into custody by Jamaican police for questioning, reports the Daily Mail. ‌ A witness who stopped at the scene of the crash and tried to help Lisa posted about the incident online, saying it had left her feeling shaken. Kacia Campbell-Jones wrote: "I am still reeling from the shock of the incident, which made for a sleepless night, particularly since it fell on my birthday and your anniversary and birthday celebration. Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and I hope my assistance at the scene was in some way helpful, especially trying to get an ambulance and preparing the A&E staff before she got there." Tributes were paid to Lisa, who went by Jo-Ann Pickles on social media, after her sudden death. "Love you mum," her heartbroken daughter Chloe Watson wrote on Facebook. A tribute read: "I went to school with Joanne up to being about 9 years old, if I remember rightly she lived up long Lee then. So shocked to hear she's died, she was such a cute, lovely kid, I remember a day out to Lightwater Valley with her. Much love to her family xx." "Aww so sorry for your loss heartbreaking xx," someone else said. "So sorry for your loss," one more person added. One more tribute read: "Devastated at the news. So sorry you are all having to go through this. Sending huge hugs and thoughts to you all. Lisa was a client of mine. Such a gentle soul, kind and caring. Xx." A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: 'We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Jamaica and are in contact with the local authorities.'
